Don’t Worry, I Know Where You Are
A friend of mine shared the story of one of his daughters driving adventures. The story goes that she was returning home from being across town late one evening. After a wrong turn somewhere here or there, she found herself among unfamiliar surroundings. Frantically, she called her dad and told him what was going on. She explained that she had gotten turned around somewhere and did not know where she was or what way to go. After getting her to calm down, he asked her to describe what was around her. She told him and then said, “But Dad, I still don’t know where I am” to which he replied, “That’s ok. Don’t worry. I do.”
That story comes back to me many times and offers comfort. Times when I have an important decision to make. Times when things come against me. Times when I feel lost and don’t know what to do, who to trust, or where to turn.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight”
When I read that verse I realize that I don’t have to know where I am. I don’t have to know where I am going. I do have to trust that God knows.
It is in those times that I hear the conversation again, but in a new way.
I can say, ”Dad, I don’t know where I am”
and hear this reply, ”Don’t worry, It’s ok.. I do!”
