Online Music Lessons – Notes, Measures and Counting

One vital key to learning how to play any musical instrument, is being able to count. As a band director once told me, a right note in the wrong place, is a wrong note. The rhythm of the music gives it structure and helps it to make sense. In fact, it is more important that the notes themselves. A tuba playing random notes for random lengths of time makes no sense, but a percussionist playing a rhythm on a single tone snare drum makes sense. This video talks about what the note values of a quarter note, half note and whole note are and how they fit into a measure.

In this week’s lesson we build on what we learned last time and we add the notes on the Third string. Then we put it all together to play a G scale from the third to first string.

Last week I started my online guitar lessons. We are learning the notes on each string, then the chords etc.. But what if you want to play something now.. right now? Well check out this video. In it we learn how you can play one chord shape, move it around on the neck and be able to play many songs.

Finding Background Loops For Your Videos

Youtube is not going away anytime soon. In fact, if you have a blog or website and have not yet started using videos, you should definitely think about it. During our adoption process we made videos to keep our friends and family engaged and informed with our journey.

One key component to a finished video is the music playing in the background. The right background music can give a polished, professional feel to your video. Unfortunately finding good, free to use clips is often a challenge.

That is why I have started creating loops and posting them on my website. There are both loopable clips, and complete songs. Some have different versions or different lengths. These loops are great for you to use on youtube videos, as background for animoto projects or as an alternative to the stock iMovie clips.

The clips are hosted on Soundcloud but embedded here on my Tracks and Loops page under Resources. You are free to use them for your projects, I just ask that you send a link back here and give me credit for the song.

Fixing Your Facebook – Tip #2 Write Engaging Posts

We are talking about ways to get control of Facebook before you get so frustrated you get rid of it. My first tip was a little drastic, and a little negative, so I thought I’d share something a little more positive.

Share the posts you’d like to see. Yep, it’s simple. It’s kind of like the whole “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” The more you make your Facebook posts about engaging others, hopefully that will influence your “Facebook friends” to do the same.

In her post “7 Essential Steps for Writing Engaging Facebook Page Updates”, Jennifer Fong gives several ways you can write more engaging posts.

Follow the link above to read them all, and for the complete descriptions, but here are two that will get you started:

#1 Ask Questions - I definitely agree with this. I have found that people love to share their thoughts. Sometimes I post something as simple as what is your favorite Ice Cream flavor, or share a knock knock joke.

#6 – Keep it Short – As she says people tend to tune out after the first 2 sentences.
