I’ve Been a Dad for Four Months: An Update on Eli

I have written before about my wife and I starting the adoption process. I even wrote a CD of lullabies to help with some of the adoption costs. Well things progressed very quickly. We posted our profile at the beginning of January. One day at the end of March I received a phone call saying we had been chosen, and when we wanted to meet our son.

For about 8 weeks he was in the NICU near Oklahoma City, and we traveled back and fourth. Finally on Mother’s day weekend, and my birthday weekend, he got to come home. He came home weighing just under 5 lbs, needing oxygen when he traveled and ate, and on a monitor. The first few months we had to feed him every 3 hours around the clock.

Things have gone well since that point in time. Eli now weighs over 9 lbs and does not need the oxygen or monitor. He sleeps at least 6-8 hours at night and is eating about 4 oz of food per feeding.

I want to thank you for your prayers and support through this process. We are not finished yet, but we are well on our way. We still need to pay about $9,000 to finish up the adoption process. We trust that God will provide that through a combination of our saving, Lullaby CD Sales,  a possible new Christmas CD, gifts and loans. We also have to go through 2 more home studies to make sure we are taking care of him.

Instrumental Reflection #25- Not Forgotten

The complete Hopes, Prayers and Lullabies CD is now available for download on indieheaven. You may access it one of two ways. The first is to go straight to my indie heaven site. www.indieheaven.com/artists/russellmartin or go to my purchase page on my website www.forkintheroadmusic.org/purchase. You may download individual tracks or the entire CD.

Physical-

If you live inside the Texarkana area it is easiest for you to pick up the CD at Good Treasures Bookstore located in Williams Memorial UMC located at 4000 Moores Lane, Texarkana, TX  or at Peas and Carrots 4018 Summerhill Road Texarkana, Tx.

Pre-order the Hopes, Prayers, and Lullabies CD

You may have read or heard that my wife and I have started the process to adopt a child. I knew from the start that this would be an expensive process, so I began to think of ways we could offset the cost of adoption.

This is when the idea for a piano CD of lullabies was born.

The CD is nearly 45 minutes long and includes all original soft piano lullaby type songs. Some of these songs were recorded live, over several concerts this past summer, and some recorded back home.

They are not only great to help a child sleep during nap time, but also great for background music, personal devotional times, or anytime you need quiet, reflective music.

The CD will be available for both download online, and physical CD sales, and will be in a few stores. The cost will be $10.

The goal is for it to be ready around the second week of November, but I want to give you the chance to pre-order yours now. There is no cost to pre-order, I just need to have an idea of how many copies to order.

The Reason Behind the New CD

The Reason

I have been talking with several people about an idea I had for a new CD. For years people have asked me when I was going to do a piano CD. I have hesitated for a while, but the idea kept being brought up.

My wife suggested about a year ago that I do a CD of instrumental piano for several friends and family who were expecting at the time. Though it did not happen then, it was another reminder.

Well… now I am finally going to do it, and for a very good reason.

Meagan and I have started the process for adopting a child.

I am planning on traveling to several churches and leading a free night of worship and music all on piano. I’ll record everything and then take the best of the piano recordings, and compile them onto a CD. Then I’ll make physical and online copies available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds from the CD will go to a fund to help other families beginning the adoption process.

How can you help?

1. Pray- Pray for us as we begin this journey, pray for families considering adoption, pray for children waiting to be adopted, pray for this CD and what God has in store.

2. Host a night of worship- My goal is to line up 15 worship events. These can be large church services, youth groups, retreats, or even home groups. My goal is to finish recording by the end of August. There is no cost for the event, I am only asking for a love offering to help with travel expenses.

3. Help choose some of the songs- I would like to use some of my Instrumental Reflections. Take a chance and listen and then leave a comment, or email me and let me know which ones you would like to be on the CD.

4. Buy a CD when they come out. I’ll let you know when.

I know there are many of you who have gone through or are going through process of adoption.
