One Reason to Post Your Photos on Your Website, Not Facebook

Screen Shot 2011-07-28 at 10.38.59 PM

When I attended the UMR Communicator’s Conference Patrick Steil from Church Buzz presented on 10 Commandments Church Website Optimization. During the course of his talk he mentioned that though putting your photos on Facebook albums is ok, you should make sure and post photos on your website.

I think I understand why…

Here is a view of our church web traffic over the past month. I put up photos of our “Shake it Up Cafe” VBS starting on 7-25.  Then I posted a link to our church Facebook page. Thursday alone there were 180 views of the VBS photo page.

The great thing about it is that those views also trickled down to other pages, like our “Visiting Williams” page, “News and Events” page and “Children’s Ministries.”

While I probably could have gotten a lot of views to our church Facebook page by posting the photos there, I would not have gotten the additional hits and visits of our other pages.

What about you? How do you post photos of your events? Do you use albums outside of your website, and link to them? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Winterfield Concert

Thanks so much to the congregation at Winterfield UMC in Longview for having me out. We ate Thanksgiving dinner and I shared some music.

The Setlist.. pretty much stuck to it

The set up… this has become pretty standard.. Bose sound system makes it so easy.

Guitar looks kind of lonely back there.

When is the last time they fed you a complete Thanksgiving dinner before you sang?

I invited the kids up to sing “Hey I Love Jesus” although this kind of looks like a version of “Baby Shark”

We got the “Oh how He set me free!” part together though! Thanks guys!

Sunday Setlist- 06/07/09

sundaysetlistsquaresmall This week was a sad yet joyous one for our church. Our associate pastor Frank Coats has been appointed to a new church in Houston. Today was his last Sunday with us. One thing Frank is known for is wearing bowties. So this week many members showed their love by wearing bowties of their own. We are sad to see him leave but wish him the best.

Here were are songs this week.

Everywhere I Go-
Today is the Day-
Come Ye Sinners
Child of God
Power of Your Name

Late Night of Praise and Worship

latenightworship
A week ago I was part of a fun little concert. We decided to host a “Late Night of Praise and Worship” after the evening worship service at Annual Conference. The idea was to provide a venue for some worship leaders who write their own worship songs to share those. We gathered in The Loft at The Woodlands UMC, set up a sound system and then took turns sharing music. The evening started with David Davis who is worship leader at John Wesley UMC. He shared some tracks off his last release, The Light and the Grey, and also introduced us to some new tunes he had been working on. It was great to hear his music. Second Kerri Crocker sang some of her songs from her CD, Reason to Be. After that she also shared a new worship tune that she was working on. I got the crowd up and we sang “Lord Let Your Love” and then the title song from my Unfailing Love CD. I was disappointed at first because we were supposed to also hear from Shelly Wilson. She had been sick and was unable to sing. God had different plans for her, other than singing, because she brought a convicting message for the church. Finally Kerri came back up and we closed with “Breathe”
It was great to get an evening of music and worship shared among old and new friends. Special thanks to the Lonna Nunn, Anna Rhode and the North District of the UMC for sponsoring the event. Hopefully it will be one we can continue to do.

Guest Devo: Kerri Crocker- You Against the World

As I was driving to church yesterday, my eyes were drawn to the clouds and I just had to take a picture! Oddly enough they reminded me of “life”. The large, dense blanket to the right was covering the sky in the distance (a.k.a. our problems, struggles, fears) while the smaller ones looked as if they were pushing their way through… fighting against them so we could enjoy the blue skies (a.k.a. peace, joy, love)
Things may look impossible for you, but the Word says greater is He that is in YOU than he that is in the world. You can overcome any cloud because of our Savior!!
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world … Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground and after you have done everything, to stand!
Ephesians 6:11-13
